Lina Ganem is a visual artist from Paraíba, Brazil, known for her work in xilogravura (woodcut), a traditional printmaking technique widely practiced in the Brazilian Northeast. Through intricate wood carvings, she creates powerful, expressive images that reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Deeply committed to preserving and celebrating northeastern Brazilian traditions, Lina uses her art as a vehicle for expression, memory, and resistance. Her work draws on popular culture and local narratives, contributing to the valorisation of regional identity through visual language.
In addition to her artistic practice, Lina is dedicated to education. She teaches workshops and courses in engraving techniques to both young people and adults, fostering the next generation of artists and helping sustain Paraíba’s graphic traditions.
Lina holds a degree in Architecture from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). Her artistic journey began in 2012 with a course in acrylic painting led by artist Pádua Lucena at the State Art Centre (CEARTE). That same year, she discovered engraving and began experimenting with linocut. In 2014, she deepened her practice by studying woodcut under master José Altino, developing her skills in working with wood and its derivatives, such as MDF and plywood.
In 2016 the artist founded Cavo Art Studio, a creative space where traditional printmaking meets contemporary design. Managed independently by Lina, the studio transforms her original engravings into decorative artworks and everyday products. Every step of the process is done by the artist herself, reflecting her dedication to handcrafted, meaningful creation.
